First off, I have been riding for three years now and counting.  I have done both English and Western and I really don't have a favorite one.  I love hunter/jumper but I also love Barrel Racing too.  I just can't decide which one to pursue!  If you have a favorite, tell me that!  With this being my fist own horse, I really need breed ideas also.  I know what a good horse looks like because I do horse judging in FFA.  If you or anyone you know ever has any horses for sale around Kansas City or the area, let me know!  I am very headstrong and really thin but really tall (5'10 and 124 lbs), I do sports so I have athletic legs and an athletic core but nothing else really.  I am NOT afraid of big horses or socially aquward horses either.

I love my horse to no end.  I love my boarding facility, it's the home of a good friend i consider family. But when it comes to making a decision for my horse (Omega) , i sometimes feel i have little say in it.

The equine dentist reccomended a different bit, so i finally purchased the one she said to try.  I waited months to buy it.  Because it became a monumental event.  My friend told her friend about it, and her friend sent me a text saying i was ruining my horse and that a new bit wont fix my issues i have becuase i dont know anything and im not a good enough rider.   Fine.   Im green, i get that, i openly admit it!  I need more lessons and time in the saddle.  But who are they to say anything!  I felt so betrayed.  My friend then denied saying anything to her friend.....um....obviousley you DID, you were the only one that knew about it.
I was also lunging omega one day  and my friend was telling me he was done. I thought that was my desicion?  Just becuase he is a trained horse and he did a circle a couple times doesnt mean I was done.

So with that said.......

How do i do what i want with my horse without hurting the feelings of ones "trying to help"?

im so lost.

Im not an idiot, i know whats right and wrong, and i know the basics.

• How long has the seller had the horse?
• Why is the horse being sold?
• What has the horse been used for?
• Ask about its experience and training, including how long it has been under saddle and in training.
• What vices does it have?  (weaving, cribbing, biting, kicking, barn sour, herd sour, mare-ish when in season, etc..)
• Does it trailer, clip and tie well and does it have good ground manners?
• What level of discipline is the horse experienced at?
• What history does the seller know about the horse?
• Is the horse registered with a breed association or discipline organization?
• Does the horse have a show record and is it available for you to see?
